Among all the hullabaloo of new releases from familiar brands such as Apple, Samsung, HTC, LG, and more, it is pretty amazing to see companies with enough guts to bring out a phone of their own to combat the giants of the industry. Among these well established brands, new players such as Microsoft, Motorola who just recently went and acquired mobile handset division released their take on the android system, you would also hear about resurging brands taking another shot at the industry. And finally we have Sharp, a familiar name in the world of electronics, but not one in the mobile phone community.
One would think to survive an industry as fast paced and as competitive as the mobile phone circuit, to introduce a new phone that you would want to succeed, you have to either bring something new that no one has ever done before or at least soup it up enough to give consumers a great impression of it.
Making a mark on the mid-range niche.
With Sharp Aquos Crystal smartphone, it doesn’t necessarily do that, which is surprising. They totally went with another direction by bringing something that isn’t loaded with much but is definitely impressive to look at.
Priced at just around $240, Sharp aimed to introduce this aesthetically pleasing phone to the mid range market, which kind of makes sense. It would not be a good idea to go head to head with stronger brands in a niche where they already clearly dominate. So Sharp went on to tickle the fancy of the mid range market which would probably be more receptive of the new model.
Phone specs and performance.
At first look, the phone looks like it belongs with a premium crowd. Upon closer inspection, you will see the reasons for it to be in the middle range.
Not being set up with much, Sharp Aquos Crystal smartphone, comes with modest specs with a 720P 5” edge display, running on Android 4.4.2, around 1.5GB of ram, a 8MP camera with a 1.2MP front facing camera, and powered by a 1.2ghz quad-core processor, consumers can’t necessarily expect more.
Aside from the price, there aren’t many endearing features going for it but with its looks they might turn the tide a bit. Only time will tell if it floats or if it would drown and in the flood on new phone releases.
